Eyecare for Children and the Elderly
We advise that children have an eye examination and sight test, which is completely free of charge, before they start school.
Eye checks at school by the school health team are often infrequent, or increasingly non-existent. By their very nature, a lack of sophisticated equipment also means that school health checks are often very rudimentary. Poor sight may be one of the reasons that children do not perform as well as they could at school. A thorough, detailed eye examination is advised with regular appointments throughout their education. Helen is very experienced at carrying out children’s eye examinations and is able to put even the most apprehensive child at ease. Remember that eye examinations are free for all those under sixteen, or nineteen years of age if they are still in full time education.
Should spectacles be required we can offer a wide range of fashionable spectacle frames, with impact resistant plastic lenses, free of charge.
If you are concerned that your child may be having problems with their eyes please feel free to discuss this with us. We are always happy to offer advice.
Even if there is no family history of eye problems, we advise that from the age of seventy an annual eye examination should be carried out. We can often detect vision problems such as cataract or glaucoma even before patients experience symptoms. According to the World Health Organisation 80% of all cases of blindness and serious sight loss could be avoided through proper eye care and treatment.
